The digital transformation of companies does not necessarily happen through the complete replacement of the technologies that support their operations.

In organizations with decades of history, corporate applications carry much more than code. They concentrate processes, business rules, and knowledge built over the years—elements that continue to be important for the continuity of operations.

It was from this perspective that the Solar Group presented its modernization journey during the INTERON Global Conference 2026, held in São Paulo.

Invited to share its experience, Solar presented its modernization case alongside INTERON, showing how technological evolution can create new possibilities for existing applications without requiring the rewriting of the business logic that supports the operation.

From continuity to evolution

The Solar Group brings together different operations and has six decades of history. With the growth of the business and the need to keep up with technological evolution, the challenge arose to modernize its infrastructure while maintaining the continuity of critical systems.

Among the objectives was the migration from the HP-UX environment to an x86 architecture, seeking greater scalability and technological longevity.

At the same time, the company needed to evolve its data layer and expand integration with other technologies, without turning this process into a rewrite of existing applications.

The issue, therefore, was not simply to replace the current environment.

It was to find a way to make the applications evolve alongside the business.

Connecting existing applications to new possibilities

In this process, the Solar Group adopted solutions from INTERON, using isCOBOL for the modernization and evolution of COBOL applications and DBMaker as a relational database integrated into the environment.

The architecture also enabled increased interoperability with other languages and platforms, creating conditions for new projects and integrations.

One of the highlights of the journey was the use of isCOBOL EIS (Extend Internet System) as a bridge between COBOL applications and new digital channels.

The technology allows exposing the logic of applications as web-accessible services, using standards such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and HTTP.

In practice, this creates an important opportunity for organizations that have consolidated applications: the same business knowledge can continue to be used while new digital experiences are built around it.

A case presented by the client itself

During the Conference, the Solar Group presented its experience directly to the participants, sharing the challenges faced, the decisions made, and the results achieved throughout the modernization process.

The company also used an application developed by the Solar Group itself to visually demonstrate how its architecture allows for the provision of services across different channels and platforms.

The demonstration helped to bring a topic normally associated with complex architectures closer to a concrete business situation.

More than just talking about modernization, the presentation showed how an existing corporate application can continue to be used as a foundation for new technological possibilities.

From critical application to new channels

One of the results presented by Solar was the ability of its Web, iOS, and Android applications to use the same backend.

This architecture allows for the centralization of maintenance and versioning of services, while also providing the development team with greater agility to create new routes and integrations.

The central point is not just in the technology used.

It is in the possibility of preserving the existing business logic and expanding the channels through which it can be accessed.

This approach is especially relevant in environments where operational continuity is a fundamental requirement.

Modernization as a continuous process

The experience of the Solar Group also reinforces an important characteristic of corporate application modernization: it does not need to be seen as a replacement project with a beginning and an end.

Evolution can happen progressively, following the needs of the business and allowing new technologies to be incorporated into the existing environment.

In the case presented, modernization allowed the Solar Group to advance in infrastructure, data, integration, and new channels, maintaining the business logic developed throughout its history.

It is an approach that connects two points that are often treated as opposites:

the stability of what already works and the ability to evolve to what lies ahead.

Sharing experiences to accelerate modernization

The participation of the Solar Group in the INTERON Global Conference 2026 also represents the importance of sharing real experiences to advance the discussion on application modernization.

Concrete cases help to show that the evolution of critical environments does not need to be reduced to a choice between maintaining the legacy or completely replacing it.

There are different paths to connect consolidated applications to new architectures, technologies, and channels.

The experience presented by Solar demonstrates precisely this possibility: to evolve the application, preserve business knowledge, and create new opportunities for operation.

Evolving Business Applications

For INTERON, modernizing business applications means looking beyond technology.

It means understanding what needs to be preserved, identifying what can evolve, and building an architecture capable of meeting the next business needs.

The journey of the Solar Group is a concrete example of this perspective.

Because modernizing does not necessarily mean starting over.

It means creating conditions for what already sustains the business to continue evolving.

INTERON — Evolving Business Applications.
