Cooperativa A1 accelerates critical operations with DBMaker SQL and gainsefficiency in ERP

Cooperativa A1 modernized its data environment by adopting DBMaker SQL as a relational database integrated with the ERP's COBOL applications. The initiative resulted in significant performance gains, greater operational stability, and better utilization of IT infrastructure, allowing the environment to evolve without the need for changes to the existing application code. The project was supported by INTERON and directly impacted the efficiency of the cooperative's critical operations.

The company

Founded in 1933 and based in Palmitos, in western Santa Catarina, Cooperativa A1 is one of the most traditional agricultural cooperatives in southern Brazil. The organization brings together more than 7,000 members and about 850 employees, operating in 11 municipalities in Santa Catarina and five municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. Its operations involve essential activities for the regional agribusiness and depend on stable, reliable, and highly available corporate systems.

The challenge

The corporate applications of Cooperativa A1 support strategic areas such as inventory control, accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, tax, and supply. With the growth of the business and the increase in the volume of routines executed daily, the previous environment began to show performance limitations, especially in the client/server model.

The challenge was to evolve the database to achieve more efficiency, flexibility, and performance, without compromising operational stability and without rewriting the COBOL code that supported the cooperative's ERP.

The solution

To meet these needs, INTERON presented DBMaker SQL, a robust and flexible relational database, fully integrated with COBOL applications. The solution allowed Cooperativa A1 to access the benefits of a modern RDBMS, such as better data management, higher performance, and ease of integration, while fully maintaining the application code.

The implementation was carried out gradually and securely in the ACUCOBOL-GT environment, ensuring operational continuity, risk reduction, and quick adoption by users.

The results

The gains were perceived immediately. There was a significant reduction in the execution time of ERP routines, with much faster client/server access and better utilization of server resources. Processes that previously took hours were executed in minutes, increasing team productivity and reducing the time spent on operational tasks.

The modernization also paved the way for greater integration with other systems and technologies, strengthening the cooperative's technological foundation.
